Sum Difference Product Quotient

Introduction :

Numbers are the fundamental source of math. The result of adding two numbers together is said to be sum. The smaller number is subtracted from the larger number then, the result is said to be difference. The result of two or more numbers are multiplied together is said to be product. Quotient is said to be the result of the division. Division is otherwise called as inverse of multiplication. Quotient is also called as the integer part of the answer for division. Let us see about sum difference product quotient in this article.
Example Problems to Sum Difference Product Quotient

Example 1:

Addition of 6 + 3

Solution:

Step 1:

Here, the number 6 is addend and the number 3 is also addend. Addition of two numbers is called sum.

Step 2:

Write the number 3 under the number 6 and then add the numbers.

6 (addend)

(+) 3 (addend)

---------

9 (sum)

---------

Therefore, the sum for adding 6 + 3 is 9.

Example 2:

Find the difference of two numbers 8 and 5.

Solution:

Step 1:

Here, the number 8 is minuend and the number 5 is subtrahend. Subtraction of subtrahend from the minuend is called difference.

Step 2:

Write the number 5 under the number 8 and then subtract them.

8 (minuend)

(-) 5 (subtrahend)

------------

3 (difference)

-------------

Therefore, the difference for subtracting 8 – 5 is 3.

Example 3:

Multiplication of 5 × 7

Solution:

Step 1:

Here, the number 5 is multiplicand and the number 7 is multiplier. Multiplication of multiplicand and the multiplier together, we get the product as a result.

Step 2:

The number 5 is repeated as 7 times. So we write as 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 35.

Step 3:

Or else 5 × 7 = 35

Therefore, the product for multiplying 5 × 7 is 35.

Example 4:

Find the quotient for the problem

42 ÷ 6

Solution:

Step 1:

Here, the number 42 is dividend, 6 is divisor and the result of dividing these two numbers we get the quotient.

Step 2:

Write the divisor on left side of the division bracket and dividend inside the division bracket.

6)42(

Step 3:

Check the divisor 6 go into first digit 4 of the dividend if it is not, go for taking two digits as a dividend.

The dividend 42 is the multiple of 7 and 6.

6)42(7

42

--------------

0

--------------

Therefore, the quotient for dividing 42 by 6 is 7.
